A cultural centre with the oldest Croatian written document (the 900 years old Stone of Baska), and with a long tradition in tourism, Baska has emerged as a holiday resort for a wide range of tourists. Accommodation of the highest quality, sports activities, exceptional pebble beaches, more than 2500 hours of sunshine a year, its gastronomy – this is the choice to meet anyone’s desires. It is impossible to come and not to return. Lovers of the animal world can find here marine and land autochthonous species in their natural environment. The wonderful landscape covered with medicinal herbs makes the basin of Baska a healthy place to spend your holiday. By boat or on foot, one of our thirty-odd pebble beaches can be yours. Big or small, or even the smallest one for those in love, hidden in the shadow of scented pine trees – it’s up to you to discover it. Traditional evenings, folklore, concerts, local bands called “klapa” and the local gastronomic specialties will give you a pleasurable time and offer you real relaxation.

Interesting sights of Baska

The most valuable cultural memorial of Baska is a known Baska tablet, which is definitely worth visiting if you are coming in Baska. Except the Baska table,there are many other valuable sites to be seen, which are primarily:

Baska tablet

Baska tablet is the most valuable cultural memorial in Croatia, and represents a historical document, carved into the Glagolitic alphabet. The inscription speaks of the donation of King Zvonimir to the St. Lucy Church in Jurandvor, and that is exactly the place where the historical records was found. Carved out in 13 lines and is considered to be descended from the 10th century, and was found in 1851 in the St. Lucy’s Church.

The Baska climbing area

The Baska climbing area forms a part of what is on offer in terms of active holidays, and can be enjoyed by all generations. Thanks to the natural and climatic conditions, high cliffs surround Baska that are a real treat for fans of free climbing. In Baska there are two climbing areas: BUNCULUKA and PORTAFORTUNA. Bunculuka is a small attractive climbing area located in the Naturist Camp Bunculuka. There are 6 climbing routes that cannot be expanded further, but it is attractive enough for an afternoon of climbing after relaxing and swimming on the beach. It is not working at the moment due to renovations.

The Portafortuna climbing area is located at the natural barrier of vertical rock in the valley of Baska.

Hiking trails in Baska

The craggy coastal landscape in the surrounding area of Baska is captivating and attracts many visitors. In order for lovers of mountain heights to be able to enjoy walking and hiking in the countryside, the tourist trails of Baska have been tidied up and signposted. There are a total of 19, which have a total length of over 80 km. There are both easy and difficult demanding trails, so that everyone can choose a trail according to their abilities, desires and mood. When you reach the peaks, you will be offered a breathtaking view from one of the beautiful viewpoints. For safety reasons, it is good to have a map of the paths that describes them and offers useful relevant information. These maps also tell walkers what they can expect on their trip.

At the end of the trail that takes you to Vela Luka, you can treat yourself to lunch at the snack bar on the beautiful beach in the most attractive bay in the surrounding area.
